LO2 Be able to develop a planned response to a brief

Here is my email to Henley heating a plumbing

This is my email to the company asking for a brief. I had told them everything I was after and I was lucky enough to have a response.

Here is there response

Here is the email they had sent back displaying my brief. This brief is a competitive brief, I was told others were completing this task the same time I was. The design that had everything the brief asked for what represent the company. This type of brief was confidential between myself and the client, I had no information about the other competitors. My client and I contacted each other via email and several phone calls.

Here is a copy of my questionnaire

I designed this questionnaire to really gain some detailed information on the product, the company and the history of the company. This questionnaire help tremendously as it gave me a better understanding of what they were after. I continuously looked back at this questionnaire when designing.

Here is the questionnaire filled in by Henley Heating and Plumbing

Questionnaire filled out by client.

Relevant legislation to be followed

For this particular type of brief  no legislation was even considered as my job was to create a logo. The brief did not consist of any harmful or unsuitable content so I did not have to think about legal legislation that would have to be followed if the brief was any different.

Budget

here is my budget list that my friend and I found. We found out that the cheaper the ink colour the more business cards we could afford, however the colours on the business cards would have to be either white, black, or yellow. luckily enough Henley Heating and plumbings original colours are all those three which means we could afford to buy the better quality paper as the cost of the ink is cheaper to process.

Timetable

Here is my timetable created by my friend and I as we had similar clients. In this table it shows you when I had planned to do what day of the week. I work with this throughout the production as it made it easier to keep up to date and to deadlines.

Availability

Along with my timetable I had to create an availability chart so I can see when my client and I were both free at the same times as we both have hectic schedules. The black boxes represent the days that were impossible to meet due to other commitments. The pink square are the days when we emailed each other most and the blue represents when we were free which was discussed over phone calls and email PDF files.

Risk assessment

A risk assessment had to be carried out before any designing could be done, this helped realize what to do if any major issues applied, which it did as the software crashed multiple times. Luckily enough I had all my work backed up on other computers.

My primary and secondary research on other Plumbing companies Logos and business cards.

Here is all of my research, I decided to do all my research as I knew it would help me when it came to designing but also to see how I could better my competitors. This research was extremely helpful and it allowed me to be as creative as I wanted. I soon realised that each logo that had ever been designed had been thought through clearly and this is why I then had to think how I would present mine. I had to consider what colours, shape I would use, knowing that whatever colours I did use would cost more when it comes to digital printing.

Here is a mindmap I produced in class, it was a quick rough drawing of the key features I needed to apply to my logo in order to make my client satisfied.

Print screens of development

Here a few print screens of my development throughout this project. Each logo is different and was all edited trough photoshop and publisher. I changed the saturation on one logo. I altered the size in  another and changed the colouring to an old school 'sketch book' to give the company an edge.

Draft  1

I felt this logo gave the company an edge it needed in order to a huge success. I used 'dafont' to create this typewriter effect which I then transferred to Photoshop to edit. I decided to keep the yellow and black theme as that is what was asked for in the brief. It is also there home colours, people associate these colours with the company in henley.

Draft 2

This is the second draft, after receiving strict criticism from my client I knew this wasn't the approach they were looking for. I began to brainstorm again and had to think what else I could do! For this design I still wanted to carry out the old school look, however this wasn't something my client was interested in as they felt it didn't represent them as a company well.

Draft 3 (final product)

This was my third and final design which the company loved. They felt it was very simple but was eye catching as the new black outline captured peoples attention. I kept the font size the same as I felt that was an appropriate size and so that most people could read it clearly. This design ended up being the chosen one and the company was pleased with the outcome. The company felt that this would work well on their website and on a business card as it was a rectangular shape that would fit onto a business card.

Feedback

My feedback given from the client was done via email as well as several phone call conversations that took part throughout the duration of this project. I would send out all my drafts and the client called back days later explaining what was appropriate and what I could improve on to fir their needs.

As well as client feedback I also received feedback from my class mates who continuously gave back constructive criticism  This helped me a lot as I was able to alter things using the professional software to make my product good enough to present to the client.

Review powerpoint

Here is a brief summary of my process throughout this project. I presented this in front of my class and reviewed the whole process and development.

Facts about Landfill to include in my recycling ad

  • Every year we fill enough garbage trucks to form a line that would stretch from the earth, halfway to the moon.

  • Approximately 85% of UK household waste is landfilled.

    • Up to 60% of the rubbish that ends up in the dustbin could be recycled.
    • Up to 80% of a vehicle can be recycled.
    • 9 out of 10 people would recycle more if it were made easier
    • Recycled paper produces 73% less air pollution than if it was made from raw materials.
    • 275,000 tonnes of plastic are used each year in the UK, that’s about 15 million bottles per day.
    • Plastic can take up to 500 years to decompose.
    •  glass takes up to 4000 years to decompose in a landfill yet can be recycled indefinitely
    •  Nearly 30 percent of trash in landfills is paper; 18 percent is food scraps and 16 percent is plastics.
